"Yambayisa photographs Paris the way one writes a diary: to make sure nothing is forgotten."
Born in Rwanda on 12 January 1988, Christelle Yambayisa arrived in France in 1996 after fleeing the genocide, an uprooting that remains at the core of her work. Also a model, she turned to photography as a way of putting words and feelings to her own fragmented history, building a practice that is both intimate and autobiographical. Based in Paris, she uses the city as a mirror in which to piece together memory and identity, treating the photograph as a safeguard against forgetting. Her work has been exhibited at Galerie de Buci and featured in ELLE France and Officiel Galeries Musée, among others.
