For this project, the Comité Chagall granted Bernardaud exclusive access to its archives, where a remarkable series of preparatory sketches was brought to light — drawings and gouaches created by Marc Chagall in 1963 that document, step by step, the genesis of the ceiling of the Opéra Garnier in Paris. These previously unpublished studies reveal an exuberant interplay of vivid colors, free-flowing forms and expressive lines, offering a rare glimpse into the master's creative process as it evolved toward the completion of this monumental work, still on view for audiences today.
