This work explores the theme of social masks; however, the imagery the artist employs is intended to seduce rather than to frighten or repel. The title "Lolito" alludes to Vladimir Nabokov’s novel *Lolita*, yet unlike the book’s protagonist, the figure in Ilya Fedotov-Fedorov’s work is an abstract, genderless being. The artist likens it to the two-faced Janus, a figure that embodies the union of opposites. One of the being’s faces smiles flirtatiously and sticks out its tongue, while the other—secretive—expresses no emotion.
In this sculpture, Fedotov-Fedorov also addresses the symbolism of the rabbit, an image frequently imbued with erotic connotations in popular culture.
