"The subway is a museum that runs through the city." — JonOne

Born John Andrew Perello in Harlem in 1963, JonOne began tagging New York's subway cars as a teenager before moving to Paris in 1987 at the invitation of fellow graffiti artist Bando. Working out of the squatted studios of the Hôpital Éphémère in the 18th arrondissement, he built a body of abstract, gestural canvases that carried the energy of the New York subway into the heart of Paris. Now one of the most internationally recognised figures of French street art, JonOne treats the city as a surface in constant motion: walls, canvases and even monuments become fields for an explosive, calligraphic abstraction rooted in his origins as a train writer.
