Born in Vitebsk, trained in London, and settled in Paris as early as 1909, Ossip Zadkine was one of the great sculptors of the School of Paris. While exploring Cubism without ever being confined to it, he developed a personal artistic language in which the human figure became a space for memory and expression. Notably marked by La Ville détruite, his work occupies a major place in the history of 20th-century sculpture.
